The OCAD U Library is here to help you. Our staff will be closely monitoring emails to support all your research needs.

Books and Fines

The library's physical facilities continue to be closed, along with the rest of the OCAD U campus. Please read below, for more info about how this will affect currently borrowed books and fines:

  • Returns - Please wait to return any items you have signed out (including interlibrary loans) until the library reopens. No overdue fines will accrue while the library is closed, including the week following the reopening date. All returned items will be processed once we reopen, so if you've already returned your book(s), but your library account has not reflected this, please be patient.
  • Reopening Date - All patrons with any books signed out will be notified via email, when the library has finalized a date to reopen. (If you are graduating and will no longer be checking your OCAD email, please contact with your new email address.) If you do not have any books signed out but are looking forward to using the library's facilities once we reopen, please monitor this page for the latest info.
  • Leaving Toronto - If you will be leaving Toronto before the library reopens, you can return your book(s) at the Robarts Library drop-box, located at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus. The drop-box is open 24/7. Please only use this option if you will be leaving, as this service requires extra resources that have been generously offered by Robarts staff.
  • Class Registration - Library fines balances in excess of $20 will need to be cleared before registering for Fall/Winter courses. To do this using the online payment system, please see below. (To view if you have any fines, you can login to your library account and check the "current balance".)
  • Graduation Assessment - Students carrying a balance of fines in excess of $20, will be required to clear them before submitting an application to graduate. If this applies to you, please follow the procedures below. (To view if you have any fines, you can login to your library account and check the "current balance".)
  • Paying library fines online - Please send an email to, letting them know that you would like to pay library fines, and providing them with your Name and Student Number. Once they confirm the total amount owed with the library, they will provide you with a personal link to process your payment, using debit or credit.

Electronic Collections

  • The majority of the Library’s collection remains available online and accessible off-campus through the Library’s Summon search engine, Journal Portal and Databases A – Z system located on the Library’s homepage
  • Course Reserves remain available through Canvas and new reading requests or alterations will be accepted from faculty.  Readings requests will be acquired and fulfilled if digital copies are available.
